Shopify Plus Pricing at a Glance
| Pricing situation | Current Shopify Plus pricing |
|---|---|
| Standard setup, 1-year term | $2,500/month |
| Standard setup, 3-year term | $2,300/month |
| Annual platform cost | $30,000 / $27,600 |
| More complex or higher-volume business | Variable platform fee may apply |
| B2B vs D2C variable pricing | Can differ; custom quote required |
TSA Verdict: Shopify Plus should be evaluated on operational requirements rather than GMV alone. Its published platform fee is only one component of total ecommerce cost; payment processing, apps, development and integrations can represent a much larger share of annual technology spend.
For agencies advising growing brands, the key question is therefore not simply whether a business has crossed a particular revenue threshold, but whether it needs Plus-specific capabilities such as greater checkout customization, unlimited staff accounts, expansion stores, advanced B2B functionality or higher-scale organizational controls.
The April 2026 B2B expansion changes the Plus value equation because foundational B2B functionality is now available on lower Shopify plans. Agencies should therefore evaluate Plus based on the advanced capabilities a business actually requires rather than treating annual GMV as an automatic upgrade trigger.
Pricing note: Shopify currently publishes standard Shopify Plus pricing of $2,500 per month on a one-year term and $2,300 per month on a three-year term. Shopify states that more complex or higher-volume businesses may be subject to a variable platform fee based on revenue and business model, with the structure differing between B2B and D2C businesses.
Because Shopify does not publicly provide a universal GMV threshold, percentage formula or maximum platform-fee cap for every merchant, this guide does not apply a fixed GMV-based formula to higher-volume businesses. Contract-specific pricing should be confirmed directly with Shopify.

How Shopify Plus Pricing Works in 2026
For standard setups and integrations, Shopify Plus currently starts at $2,500 per month on a one-year term or $2,300 per month on a three-year term.
The three-year commitment therefore represents a published saving of $200 per month, or $2,400 per year, compared with the one-year rate.
For more complex or higher-volume businesses, Shopify states that a variable platform fee may apply based on revenue and business model. Shopify does not publicly publish a universal revenue threshold or percentage formula that applies to every Plus merchant, and variable pricing can differ between B2B and D2C businesses.
TSA Recommendation: Use the published $27,600–$30,000 annual platform cost as the starting point for standard Shopify Plus budgeting. For higher-volume or more complex businesses, obtain a Shopify quote rather than modelling the platform fee using a universal percentage of GMV.
Variable fee above the GMV threshold.
Monthly GMV above approximately $800,000 triggers a variable fee of 0.25% of gross merchandise volume. At $1M monthly GMV, the fee is $2,500 (replacing the flat fee). At $2M monthly GMV, the fee is $5,000. At $10M monthly GMV, the fee is $25,000. The variable fee is capped at $40,000/month, which is reached at $16M monthly GMV. Above $16M/month, the Shopify Plus platform cost is fixed at $480,000/year regardless of further GMV growth.
The transition from flat to variable is the most consequential Shopify Plus pricing inflection for agencies advising growing clients. A brand at $750K monthly GMV pays $27,600/year in platform fees. The same brand at $1M monthly GMV pays $30,000/year. At $2M monthly GMV: $60,000/year. The platform fee doubles with each GMV doubling in the variable zone.
The Real Cost: All Four Layers at Three GMV Scenarios
The Shopify Plus subscription is not the total cost. Most agencies presenting a Shopify Plus pricing recommendation to a client use only the subscription number. The full cost includes four layers.
Cost Layer 1: Platform subscription Documented above. $27,600 to $480,000/year depending on GMV.
Cost Layer 2: Payment processing
Shopify Payments credit card processing on Plus: approximately from 2.25% + $0.30 for standard online card payments in the US.
Third-party payment gateway surcharge: 0.20% of GMV added on top of the processing fee for brands not using Shopify Payments.
Cost Layer 3: App subscriptions
Subscription selling is available through Shopify’s free first-party Shopify Subscriptions app as well as third-party subscription apps. Businesses requiring more advanced subscription functionality may still choose specialized third-party platforms.
Cost Layer 4: Development and maintenance
Shopify Plus requires ongoing development for theme customization, checkout script maintenance, app integration, and new feature implementation. Agency rates for Shopify Plus development run $150 to $250/hour. Annual development cost for an active Plus store: $20,000 to $80,000 depending on roadmap complexity.
The real numbers at three GMV scenarios:
The following scenarios are TSA cost models rather than standard Shopify Plus cost benchmarks. They combine Shopify’s current published starting price with assumptions for payment processing, apps and development. Actual costs can vary substantially based on average order value, transaction volume, app stack, negotiated rates, integrations and development requirements.
Scenario 1: Agency client at $2M annual GMV
Platform subscription (flat, 3-year): $27,600/year. Payment processing at 2.25% on $2M GMV: $45,000/year, before per-transaction fixed charges. App subscriptions (moderate stack): $18,000/year. Development (light maintenance): $20,000/year. Total annual cost: $108,600/year. Platform fee as percentage of total: 25%.
Scenario 2: Agency client at $5M annual GMV
Platform subscription: Monthly GMV $416K, still in flat zone. $27,600/year. Payment processing at 2.25% on $5M: $112,500/year, before per-transaction fixed charges. App subscriptions: $30,000/year. Development: $40,000/year. Total annual cost: $205,100/year. Platform fee as percentage: 13%.
Scenario 3: Agency client at $10M annual GMV
Monthly GMV $833K, just above the variable threshold. Platform subscription at 0.25% of $10M/year: $27,600/year. Payment processing at 2.25% on $10M: $225,000/year, before per-transaction fixed charges. App subscriptions: $48,000/year. Development: $60,000/year. Total annual cost: $348,000/year. Platform fee as percentage: 7%.
The pattern is consistent across all three scenarios: payment processing is the dominant cost, not the platform subscription. At $10M GMV, Shopify Payments processing costs 8.6x the annual platform fee.
A custom variable platform fee may apply for more complex or higher-volume businesses; Shopify does not publicly provide a universal formula for calculating it.
What Shopify Plus Pricing Actually Includes
After the April 2026 B2B feature expansion to all plans, the current Shopify Plus differentiators are:
Unlimited staff accounts versus 15 on Shopify Advanced.
Up to 9 expansion stores for international storefronts, B2B portals, or separate brand stores. Shopify Plus includes one main store and up to nine expansion stores under the standard contract. Businesses requiring additional stores should confirm availability and pricing with Shopify.
Shopify Flow for workflow automation (previously a paid app, now included with Plus).
Launchpad for scheduling product drops, sales events, and theme changes with automated rollback.
Advanced checkout customization through Checkout Extensibility, Shopify Functions and Plus checkout capabilities
A dedicated Merchant Success Manager for onboarding support and strategic guidance.
Shopify POS Pro for up to 20 retail locations (included since 2023).
Priority customer support with faster response times than standard plans.
What Shopify Plus pricing does not include:
Subscription billing (requires third-party apps). Advanced loyalty programs (requires third-party apps). Advanced review management (requires third-party apps). ERP integration (requires development or third-party middleware). Advanced B2B quoting and purchase order workflows (available natively post-April 2026 on all plans, but complex configurations still require development).
TSA SCAR: Model Payment-Provider Costs Separately
Payment-provider configuration can materially affect the total cost of Shopify Plus. Merchants using Shopify Payments as their sole payment provider generally avoid Shopify’s third-party transaction fees, while transactions processed through applicable third-party providers can attract an additional Shopify transaction fee alongside the provider’s own processing charges.
The exact rate and treatment can vary by location and payment configuration.
TSA Recommendation: Before finalizing a Shopify Plus cost model, confirm the client’s preferred payment providers, current Shopify transaction-fee treatment and Shopify Payments eligibility. Use the merchant’s actual payment mix rather than applying a single fee to total GMV.
When Shopify Plus Pricing Is Justified
Brands above $2M annual GMV needing expansion stores.
The expansion store capability is the clearest Shopify Plus exclusive. A brand running a US store, a UK store, and a B2B wholesale portal simultaneously needs Plus. Standard plans support one storefront only.
Brands with 15 or more staff needing platform access.
Shopify Advanced caps staff accounts at 15. Shopify Plus removes this cap. An agency with a 20-person ecommerce team plus 10 client stakeholders needing backend access hits the cap on Advanced.
Brands Needing Advanced Checkout Customization
Shopify Plus provides deeper checkout customization capabilities than standard plans, including access to advanced checkout extensibility, APIs and extensions for tailoring checkout experiences.
Shopify’s legacy Scripts framework was deprecated on June 30, 2026, with Shopify Functions and the newer checkout-extensibility architecture replacing many previous script-based customization use cases.
For businesses where checkout logic, branding or specialized B2B and D2C flows are strategically important, these additional customization capabilities can strengthen the case for Plus.
When Shopify Plus pricing is not justified:
Brands under $1.5M annual GMV that only need B2B features. Post-April 2026, foundational B2B is available on Advanced at $399/month. The platform fee jump from $4,788/year (Advanced) to $27,600/year (Plus) for B2B capabilities is not justified below $2M GMV.
Brands with a single storefront and under 15 staff accounts. Shopify Advanced at $399/month covers the operational surface of most single-brand ecommerce operations under $5M GMV without the Plus premium.
Buy / Skip Decision Matrix
| Business requirement | TSA assessment |
|---|---|
| Primarily needs foundational B2B features | Compare Basic, Grow or Advanced before Plus; B2B is now available across all plans. |
| Needs unlimited B2B catalogs or direct company-level catalog assignment | Plus becomes materially more relevant. |
| Requires deposits, partial payments or advanced B2B payment capabilities | Plus offers capabilities not available on lower plans. |
| More than 15 Shopify admin users required | Plus; Advanced currently supports up to 15 users while Plus supports unlimited users. |
| Multiple related storefronts under one Plus organization | Evaluate Plus; one main store plus nine eligible expansion stores are included. |
| Advanced checkout customization is strategically important | Evaluate Plus checkout-extensibility capabilities. |
| Significant physical retail operation | Factor in the POS Pro locations included with Plus. |
| High GMV but limited operational complexity | Do not upgrade based on GMV alone; compare requirements and obtain a Plus quote. |
| Complex/high-volume business subject to variable pricing | Obtain contract-specific Shopify pricing rather than using a fixed GMV formula. |
FAQ
How much does Shopify Plus cost per month in 2026?
Shopify Plus starts at $2,300/month on a 3-year contract or $2,500/month on a 1-year rolling term for brands with monthly GMV below approximately $800,000. Above that threshold, pricing shifts to a variable model of 0.25% of monthly GMV, capped at $40,000/month when monthly GMV reaches $16,000,000. The subscription is the starting point. Payment processing, app costs, and development overhead make the total annual cost 3 to 10 times the subscription fee depending on GMV and stack complexity.
What changed in Shopify Plus pricing in 2026?
April 2026 was the most consequential Shopify Plus change in recent years. Shopify made foundational B2B features available on all standard plans including Shopify Advanced. Previously, B2B catalog pricing, wholesale customer accounts, and draft order management were exclusive to Plus and were the primary justification for upgrading at lower GMV thresholds. Post-April 2026, the financial case for upgrading to Plus below $1.5M to $2M annual GMV weakened significantly.
What is the Shopify Plus variable pricing threshold?
The variable fee threshold is approximately $800,000 in monthly GMV (roughly $9.6M annually). Below this threshold, brands pay the flat $2,300 or $2,500 monthly fee. Above it, the platform fee transitions to 0.25% of monthly GMV. The variable fee is capped at $40,000/month, reached at $16M monthly GMV. Verify the exact current threshold at shopify.com/plus/pricing as Shopify has adjusted this figure over time.
Does Shopify Plus include B2B features in 2026?
Shopify Plus includes advanced B2B features including custom storefront experiences for B2B buyers, automated wholesale workflows, and dedicated B2B portal creation. Standard Shopify Advanced now includes foundational B2B features such as company profiles, catalog price lists, and draft orders following the April 2026 update. Complex B2B configurations requiring custom quote workflows, purchase order management, and ERP integration still require Plus or third-party development on any plan.
Is Shopify Plus worth it for a $5M GMV brand in 2026?
At $5M annual GMV with monthly GMV well below the $800K variable threshold, the $27,600/year flat subscription provides expansion store capability, unlimited staff accounts, advanced checkout customization through Checkout Extensibility, Shopify Functions and Plus checkout capabilities, and Launchpad access. For a higher-volume Shopify Plus operation, the total annual technology cost can extend well beyond the platform subscription once apps, development, integrations, maintenance and payment-related costs are included.
In a modelled implementation at this scale, annual technology spend could reach the $150,000–$250,000 range depending on the complexity of the stack and the assumptions used. This should be treated as a scenario-based estimate rather than a standard Shopify Plus cost benchmark.
